Things to do in Gatlinburg and Sevierville this Summer

The East Tennessee summer months don’t mess around. We have heat, heat, more heat, and a heavy dose of humidity. The best way to beat the heat is to get out there and explore. Are you looking for things to do in Gatlinburg and Sevierville this August? We’ve got the list for you if you seek adventure and new experiences.

Things to do in Gatlinburg

If you’re looking for a weekend getaway, then the areas of Gatlinburg and Sevierville are ideal, as they’re packed with things to do for all ages. Gatlinburg is perfect for a relaxing escape in the Smokey Mountains and exploring the great outdoors. Why not try fishing, hiking, or white-water rafting; it’s all there. These are our favorites:

  1. Choose adventure and go rafting through the Smokies. The daring can take on the rapids in the upper section of Pigeon River, where you’ll experience high-adrenaline thrills alongside breathtaking natural scenery. If you prefer a quieter river cruise, the lower section of Pigeon River is the setting for scenic family cruises.
  2. Opt for the tranquility of fly fishing in the Smokies in the thick of nature. Escape the heat of the city and unwind at your own pace.
  3. Get your blood pumping on a mountain coaster. Try the Moonshine Mountain Coaster and cruise down the mountainside at your own pace; thrillingly fast or relaxed and slow, it’s up to you.

Things to do in Sevierville

If you find yourself in Sevierville, you’ll find plenty of activities for young and not-so-young alike. Sevierville has a bit of everything: excellent shopping, several wineries and breweries, countless museums and indoor attractions, and outdoor activities for all tastes. And it isn’t easy to choose, but these are our three picks:

  1. Take in Tennessee views from a different perspective on the Legacy Mountain Zipline. This zipline tour offers breathtaking views over the Smokey Mountains and is an ideal day out for families or groups.
  2. Alternatively, beat the heat at the Soaky Mountain Water Park. Whether you’re on the Black Bear Rapids, the American Racer’s Rush, or the relaxing Coyote Springs, there’s something for the whole family.
  3. If you’d prefer to stay out of the sun and take in some history, visit the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge, just south of Sevierville. Learn about the fascinating history behind the Titanic, view the museum’s extensive display of artifacts, walk the replica of the ship’s Grand Staircase, and more.
