Experience nature in East Tennessee
Tennessee boasts many different activities suited to every type of romantic couple. If you’re longing for fresh air and the crunch of fallen leaves beneath your boots, head to the Smokies for a winter hike. Even in the height of winter, the mountains, explosions of evergreen flora, and beautiful views are bound to set a romantic mood. There are several trails to choose from, varying in difficulty. The Trillium Gap Trail is slightly more strenuous with an elevation of 1,200 feet, or there’s the shorter Laurel Falls Trail which takes you to an 80ft waterfall and is just 2.3 miles in a roundtrip.
If trekking through the great outdoors doesn’t sound like a romantic way to spend a day, then jump in the car and drive the picturesque Cades Cove Loop Road, just outside of Pigeon Forge. This scenic drive is open during daylight hours, and with a speed limit of 20 miles an hour, you can expect a relaxing meander passed historic buildings, grazing horses, and views of the Great Smoky Mountains.
Discover places to visit in East Tennessee
Let your imagination run wild on a cave adventure at Ruby Falls, Chattanooga. Discovered in the 1920s, this labyrinth of caves takes you straight to the heart of Lookout Mountain and wows you with the largest underground waterfall in the country. Usually, visitors enter the cave system via the stunning glass elevator descending 260 ft. before starting their walking tour. A refurbishment project began on the elevator at the beginning of January 2023, so with any luck, the dramatic entrance to Ruby Falls will soon be up and running better than before. But, whether you enter via foot or elevator, the waterfall, rock formations, and knowledge shared by the excellent guides make for a memorable romantic excursion. Plus, Ruby Falls is known to host some unique tours, so it’s best to check in advance.
After working up a thirst from your Ruby Falls tour, take a leisurely drive over to the Old Tennessee Distillery Company in Kodak, TN. We will give you and your better half a tour of our distillery, tell you about its origins, and introduce you to our master distillers. Expect to learn everything from the history of our distilling forefathers to the escapades of the whiskey runners during prohibition. Our time-old distilling practices will give you a real sense of old East Tennessee! After your tour, settle in for one of our free tasting sessions or our famed $5 cocktails and experience our farm-to-vat distilling process.
