Best Drinks to Help You Stay Warm This Crazy Winter
This month has been much colder than normal in East Tennessee, and beyond, with constant freezing temperatures, icy conditions, and even some snow flurries. For many, the perfect winter day means staying indoors and enjoying a warm meal or drink. If you’re stuck inside during an unexpected winter storm, take some time mixing up a new drink recipe. To help you out, we’ve put together a few drink ideas that are full of bold, southern flavor, and, most importantly, will help keep you warm.
Warm Old Fashioned
5 dashes orange bitters
Splash of club soda
2 oz. Thunder Road 101 bourbon whiskey
2 oz. hot water
1 orange slice
1 maraschino cherry
Muddle the orange bitters, orange slice, cherry, and soda together in a whiskey glass. Remove any remaining fruit pieces. Pour in the bourbon followed by the warm water. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
Hot Buttered Rum
1 tsp. butter
1 tsp. brown sugar
2 ounces Black Mountain rum
1 cup boiling water
Cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice to taste
Add the butter, sugar, and spices to a glass. Pour in the rum and boiling water. Mix thoroughly to make sure the butter has melted and the sugar has dissolved. Top with whipped cream and nutmeg for serving. This simple take on a classic will warm you up in no time!
Mexican Mule
1.5oz. Tail of the Dragon tequila
0.5oz. Tail of the Dragon triple sec
0.5oz. lime juice
4oz. ginger beer
Lime wedges (optional)
Ice (optional)
Ginger has been known to increase blood flow which aids in raising your body temperature! Mix all ingredients in your favorite copper mug. Add ice as desired and garnish with lime wedges.
