National Pina Colada Day: July 10th
At Old Tennessee Distilling Company, we love our moonshine first and foremost, but that’s not to say more tropical liquors aren’t still in our wheelhouse! July 10th is National Pina Colada Day so for all you fruity drink and rum lovers, get your blenders, fruit, and booze ready. “Pina colada” is Spanish for “pineapple coconut,” which will begin your grocery list for the best pina colada recipe.
Here’s what you’ll need for each pina colada, although you’ll need to make a bigger batch for seconds or friends:
½ fresh pineapple, peeled, cut into 1½ pieces
6 oz. sweetened cream of coconut
2 oz. unsweetened coconut milk
8 oz. Cal E. Johnson Silver Rum
2 Tbsp. fresh lime juice
2 oz. Cal E. Johnson Black Mountain Spiced Rum
3 cups ice
Step 1: slice the pineapple into chunks and freeze until solid.
Step 2: blend everything until thick like a milkshake. This might take a few minutes but be patient for the best result! Place in freezer until solid.
Step 3: Blend the mixture again for a creamy texture and top off with an extra splash of rum.
