A Drink Guide for National BBQ Month
- May is National BBQ Month, which means it’s time to dust off our grills, break out the food, and – best of all – start enjoying some delicious drinks. While you may be tempted to reach for your favorite beer, instead, try out a new drink recipe that is guaranteed to be a guest favorite and is an easy way to kick your cook-off up a notch. In honor of National BBQ Month, we, here at Old Tennessee Distilling Company, are serving you a guide to the best drinks to pair with your favorite BBQ foods.
Mint Julep
Mint Julep is a southern classic that should be present at every cook-out. It makes a great compliment to southern BBQ foods and the bourbon in this recipe pairs perfectly with the rich flavors of any barbeque sauce.
To Make:
- 3 oz. Thunder Road Bourbon
- ½ oz. simple syrup or granulated sugar to taste
- 4-6 mint sprigs, one for garnish
Start by adding ice, simple syrup (or sugar), and mint leaves into a glass. Pour the bourbon on top and mix until combined. For a mintier flavor, muddle the mint leaves and sugar beforehand.
Watermelon Margarita
This refreshing and fruity cocktail makes a delicious addition to your BBQ meal. The sweet flavors pair especially well with the spice and flavors of barbequed chicken.
To Make:
- 3 oz. Watermelon Falls Moonshine
- 2 oz. lime juice
- 1 oz. simple syrup
- ½ tsp. orange liqueur
- 1 tbsp. margarita salt
Shake Watermelon Falls Moonshine, lime juice, simple syrup, and orange liqueur with ice in a cocktail shaker for 30 seconds. Press the rim of a glass into margarita salt and strain the drink into the glass. Garnish with a lime for serving.
Gin and Tonic
You can’t go wrong with a traditional gin and tonic, especially on a hot day. Try adding a twist to your traditional gin and tonic recipe by using flavored tonic water, such as lime. Your cook-out guests can enjoy sipping on this delicious drink while enjoying the beautiful summer weather.
To Make:
- 3 oz. Dumplin Creek Gin
- 4 oz. tonic water (flavored if desired)
- Lime wedge for garnish
Mix Dumplin Creek Gin and tonic water in a glass filled with ice. Garnish with lime for serving.
